Car Hammock Setup for Car Camping
SETTING UP THE ORIGINAL CAR HAMMOCK:
- Park the vehicle in a SAFE location.
- Put the automobile in PARK and engage the PARKING BRAKE (if possible).
- Open all the doors and recline the front seats.
- Depending on the type of vehicle and how far the seats recline, it may be necessary to remove the headrests.
- Remove your Car Hammock from the bag and lay it out over the reclined seats and interior of the vehicle.
- Both front and rear strap systems are identical so there is no distinguishing between the front and back.
- On the passenger side of the vehicle run the front passenger’s side windshield strap and buckle between the door and door jamb and place it on the windshield.
- On the driver’s side of the vehicle run the front driver’s side windshield strap and buckle between the door and door jamb.
- Be careful that the fabric of the hammock does not get stuck on the steering wheel.
- Reach over to the center of the windshield and grab the other end of the buckle (that is resting on the windshield) and connect the side release buckle near the middle of the windshield.
- Adjust the side release buckle so that the hammock fabric is near the door jamb on both sides of the vehicle. The font windshield strap and buckle should be near the middle of the windshield.
- Repeat this same process for the rear windshield strap and adjust the strap accordingly.
- At this point the front and rear windshield straps/buckles will be attached and adjusted.
- Pop the trunk and run the trunk straps to the lip of the trunk. Place both gutter hooks onto the lip of the trunk, hold the straps taught, and close the trunk with the hooks in place. Adjust the straps so they are taut.
- Return to the front of the car. Take the hood straps and place the gutter hooks inside the lip of the hood. This should not require the hood to be popped.
- Adjust the hood straps accordingly.
- At this point the only strap that won't be connected is the roof strap. If this strap is connected and pulled too tight the hammock will tear during entry or exit (unless you get in and out of the sun roof). It is best to leave this strap unbuckled and hanging free. This strap is useful for the snow cover setup.
- Close all the doors except one (the straps will remain between the door and door jamb).
- Enter the hammock through the remaining open door. Close the door behind you.
- ENJOY
Car Hammock XL
SETTING UP THE CAR HAMMOCK XL:
- Park the vehicle in a SAFE location.
- Put the automobile in PARK and engage the PARKING BRAKE (if possible).
- Open all the doors and move the front seats as far forward as possible. Drop the rear seats down as flat/far as possible.
- Remove your Car Hammock XL from the bag and lay it out in the back of the vehicle.
- The front of the hammock is wider than the rear side of the hammock.
- On the passenger side of the vehicle run the front roofstrap out the open door and throw it over to the otherside.
- Go to the the driver's side and connect the side release buckle into the female end.
- Adjust the webbing so that the hammock fabric is almost near the door jamb. This can be adjusted later for optimal comfort.
- Throw the roof strap over the vehicle and connect the buckle on the other side. This buckle can also be adjusted later for optimal comfort.
- Run the rear straps out the back of the vehicle. If the vehicle has hydraulics be careful to run the straps inside the hydraulics.
- Open Rail Roof Racks:
- Run the carabiner systems through the open rails, connect them on top of the vehicle.
- Slip the protective cover over each carabiner.
- Adjust the straps for optimal comfort.
- Closed Rail or No Roof Racks:
- For the Car Hammock XL to work on these systems you will need to create an anchor point on top of the vehicle. To do this, you must tie two loops into the roof strap, one on each side of the roof.
- Then, hook each carabiner into the loops you have created.
- This method will take some fine tuning of the roof strap and rear straps to get right.
- Close all the doors except for one and enter the Car Hammock XL through the remaining open door.
- Once inside you may have to get out and readjust the straps for a better fit.
